The Arrival of Welsh Histories
Welsh Histories Website Goes Live
Welsh Histories has been mostly confined to social media since its inception almost seven months ago in October of 2023. In that time, we have rapidly risen to well over 20,000 followers on Facebook; launched an Instagram account just two months ago (with approximately 350 followers so far) and have had success with our digital magazine, Welsh Histories Magazine. We have also written a couple of articles for our friends at the excellent Bylines Cymru.
It was, therefore, part of our natural progression to one day launch our very own website. It has been a rather tiresome process, of course, as Welsh Histories is still entirely operated by just one person – meaning every single aspect of it, from the social media pages to the writing and editing of the magazine, is done solely by myself. Hopefully one day soon this might change!
What It Will Entail
Welsh Histories‘ website is going to be a number of different things. Firstly, and most excitingly, it is going to be a blog with written articles from historians, members of the public and so forth. There will be two sections of this blog:
Firstly, Welsh Histories – a solely Welsh history based blog built with the intention of, what else, sharing stories about Welsh history. This may sometimes include expanded upon versions of our stories from the Welsh Histories Facebook page, as well as entirely new blogs and, hopefully, some written article contributions from those wishing to write for us.
Secondly, there will be Humans of Cymru; a different kind of blog not limited to history, where we hope to have written and inspiring stories from some of Cymru’s most unique and inspirational people. This enables us to achieve not only our passion of promoting Welsh history to a larger audience but also our second passion of celebrating Cymru and its people, as well as its language.
Speaking of language, there is the hope of incorporating some Welsh language blogs, whether for the main blog or Humans of Cymru, also. Whereas I, myself, as a predominantly English speaking north east Gog less confident in his Welsh capabilities will almost always write in English, I do hope to have some Cymraeg representation on the blog – so if you are a Welsh speaker looking to write for us, feel free to know you can do so yn Gymraeg. It is part of our slogan, after all, to celebrate Welsh history, culture and language.
The Rest of the Website
The rest of the website will be, for the most part, pretty basic. We have sections on our privacy policies; a section titled “Write for Us” and so forth. Furthermore, we also have our Welsh Histories Shop.
Welsh Histories Magazine has been successful in its first three months but sometimes, I feel, people are less inclined to purchase it knowing that third party sources are charging a little bit extra and claiming some of the income. By hosting the store here, we control the prices and we (I think) gain all of the income – so it is beneficial for all! We will, however, still be uploading the magazines to other sources, should our audience prefer to buy from there. So rest assured this won’t change.
We will continue to grow, expand and, ultimately, keep celebrating our Welsh history for all those who wish to celebrate it with us. We have enjoyed your company on this journey and we will keep riding it out together!
More from Welsh Histories
Welsh Histories is a Welsh history celebrating platform which looks to promote all aspects of Welsh history. Though we focus predominantly on native Welsh history, we do also share the non-native aspects from time to time. You can follow us on Facebook; Instagram or Twitter for more. A reader? We also have our very own Welsh Histories Shop where we sell our Welsh Histories Magazine. Diolch yn fawr iawn and keep enjoying Welsh Histories.

Hey there. I’m sorry, I don’t know your name. I’m Alun. I’d be interested in writing for you. I’m from Ebbw Vale but currently live in London. I write poetry mainly. I dabble in the odd political article as well and I’m presently struggling with the first chapter of my autobiography. What I’d like to do is submit a poem (say, once a month) exploring a particularly theme. For example, if the website or magazine was featuring the miners strike one week, then you could let me know and I’d work on a poem for that months publication. Does that sound like a good idea? There’s plenty going on in the Welsh calendar year, Anniversary of Aberfan, the rugby, politics…etc. I’d be happy to write a political article now and then too, if that’s what you need. Let me know what you think.
Helo, Alun!
Diolch yn fawr for getting in touch. I am very much in favour of the idea, so please send any poetry to [email protected] and I will get it onto the blog as soon as I am able. I would be more than happy to let you know about themes too!
Best wishes,
Niklas
