The Beatles came to Bangor for a lecture on Transcendental Meditation in 1967

The Beatles, Bangor & Transcendental Meditation

Did you know that The Beatles contributed to the popularisation of transcendental meditation in the Western world after attending a lecture at Bangor University?

The Beatles visited Bangor, Gwynedd, at the height of their fame in August 1967 in order to attend a Transcendental Meditation (TM) conference being held by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Not only did this visit to Cymru affect the future of TM but also the future of the band, with their artistic style (and appearance) drastically altering following this event. Their next album, the White Album (1968) being evidence of that.

It is also well-known that, because of the influence of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on The Beatles, they gained a deep affection for India, its culture and aspects of Indian religion (Hinduism, Jain and Buddhism, mostly) and philosophy.
