Social media can often be quite the toxic virtual reality. Ultimately, that is all it is: a virtual reality.
Millions of bot accounts spreading false information, hate and intolerance which is then shared further and becomes, to those who saw this false information, truth.
It has certainly become worse in the past decade (I’ll let you decide on why as I have my own personal beliefs on this matter) and a rapid rise in online racism of all kinds only exacerbates it.
Muslims Have Been in Wales Longer Than You Think
Perhaps, I can try to tackle some of the different forms of racism in some posts which, through history, show the tolerance and inclusivity of the Welsh.
While obviously not one single race as Islam is a religion, Muslims are targeted by racists online as much as (and perhaps more than) any other group.
This image shows a group of Muslims marching through Cardiff’s Tiger Bay in 1943. In fact, the area was home to Cymru’s first Mosque and this is where the marchers were headed.
Some of the bad-faith individuals online will try to convince you that Muslims are new to Cymru and do not contribute to society. Well, they are gravely mistaken (and I would argue they are aware of this).
Of course, World War II was ongoing at the time. What you may not know, however, is that an estimated 1 million Muslims fought for Britain during the Second World War out of the more than 2.5 million Indians who fought for Britain and were essential in the Far East Campaign.
For the Allies as a whole, 5 million Muslims fought during the war.
Their contribution was massive and should never be downplayed or underappreciated.
DIGITAL Welsh Histories Magazine – January 2026
Welsh Histories Magazine January 2026 – DIGITAL COPY
The digital edition of Welsh Histories Magazine for January 2026 has finally arrived!
This month’s Welsh Histories Magazine is the first to kick off 2026 and covers the very interesting topic of the history of Christianity in Cymru. Originally, the plan was to create a magazine which covers the history of religion within Cymru but I figured that, given the extensive history of Christianity as the majority religion, it would make more sense to cover this separately. However, the closing article does reference other religions, too. I am a religious education teacher by trade, so this is a personal favourite topic of mine! I hope you enjoy.

As always, there are some “Did You Know” facts thrown in. I try to make these relevant to the topic and this month’s fun facts also reference the other religions currently present and growing within Cymru.
This year’s magazines have been written, created and designed by Niklas George (Welsh Histories founder and owner). All images used in these issues of Welsh Histories Magazine include the respective owner’s details, where applicable.
Happy reading!
