A belated penblwydd hapus to living Welsh football legend, Joe Allen, who was born in Carmarthen on 14 March in 1990. Allen is affectionately dubbed “Wee Joe Allen”, the “Welsh Xavi” and “Welsh Jesus” (though that one might just be by me, I am not sure).
At club level, Allen has played for both Liverpool and Stoke City but is perhaps best remembered for his career with Swansea City, with whom he is currently three seasons into a second stint with (his first came between 2006 and 2012).
During his first stint, he made appearances for the Swans in each of League One, the Championship and the Premier League before catching the eye of Liverpool and his former Swans manager, Brendan Rodgers. At international level, Allen has played 76 times for Cymru, scoring 2 goals.
Most notably, he was a part of the iconic Euro 2016 side that made it all the way to the semi-finals, where they would lose to eventual winners Portugal, carried and led by a prime Cristiano Ronaldo.
Allen played so good in the tournament that he was named in the Team of the Tournament alongside fellow Welshman, Aaron “Rambo” Ramsey.
