I have always been fascinated by the idea of heritage and family ancestry and, in my years of personal research, I have uncovered many family secrets. Family scandals? Check. Aunts and uncles I never knew existed? Check. That my Welsh family actually come from Ireland and not Wales? Also check.
I have always been slightly disappointed in the solid reality that I couldn’t go back further to uncover some of my ancient family history – this is very difficult to do unless you have either the budget to higher an expensive genealogist or are lucky enough to come from a rich, aristocratic family where it has all been done for you already. Then, I discovered something cheaper; far more fun and highly accurate: Illustrative DNA.
What is Illustrative DNA?

Illustrative DNA is a neat website which allows you to either conduct a DNA test and get your ancient results or, like me, upload your raw data from another test you have completed and gain your results that way. Of course, this costs, but it is very affordable and, even better, interactive. You can literally play around with your results; span centuries of heritage and see it all laid out for you on a map.
The below video shows this in even greater detail. In it, I have explained some more about Illustrative DNA and how to navigate the website while simultaneously sharing my results with you. I hope you enjoy!
