Did you know that Wales once had four unofficial capitals?
What Were They & Why?
While there have been many towns and cities which have claimed the distinction over the years (a likely result of there once having been multiple individual kingdoms, each with their own customs and capitals), the four capitals of the “four corners” perhaps held the distinction the longest.
These four capitals were: Dinbych (Denbigh) for the northeast, Caernarfon for the northwest, Aberhonddu (Brecon) for the southeast and Caerfyrddin (Carmarthen) for the southwest. Each of these towns are rich in history, with Caerfyrddin, especially, widely believed to be the oldest town in Cymru.
Since we’re on it, here are three towns that carry Welsh History across the world.
