As always, Welsh Histories does not engage in contemporary politics. However, when some political news relates to history, I will comment.
Reform UK Wales Remains Anti-Devolution
There is a letter currently being signed by Labour Members of the Senedd which accuses the current Prime Minister (Keir Starmer) of being insensitive towards devolution. Understandable, given the current government’s tendency to overrule Welsh democracy despite a campaign promise of further devolution. Again, not offering a political opinion, it is just a fact.
This relates to history because it has shown us time and time again that, when the will of Cymru is ignored, it usually results in something terrible for us. Suppression of the Welsh language and culture; the flooding of Tryweryn; mining-related disasters etc. We have devolution for a reason: so that we may have a voice. If that voice is then ignored by the party who supposedly gave it to us, then what’s the point?
Oh, and the party in the image admits that it believes Cymru should have less power. I think they are very wrong and that is a political opinion.

The second half of 2025 began the trend of including “did you know?” type fun facts, meaning there is plenty of learning to be done with this collection. A similar Christmas offer was done last year with great success, so let’s do it again. It’s on me.
This year’s magazines have been written, created and designed by Niklas George (Welsh Histories founder and owner). All images used in these issues of Welsh Histories Magazine include the respective owner’s details, where applicable.
Happy reading!
