It was on September 4 in 1947 when the fifth Marquess of Bute granted Cardiff Castle (Castell Caerdydd) and its surrounding park to Cardiff. Since then, the castle has become a tourist attraction and quite understandably so.
Here’s a fun fact about Cardiff Castle.

Did you know that the walls at Cardiff Castle, while mostly non-native medieval (built by the Normans) and dating back to the 11th century, are partly Roman?

As you may have noticed either by visiting the area or by simply looking at the image, there are odd parts of the wall towards the bottom which look out of place. These are the original Roman walls.

They date back to the first century AD, when what is now Caerdydd was a Roman fort – its Latinised name lost to time (Tamium is often associated with it).
