I was delighted to read recently that Diane Morgan, who I adore as Philomena Cunk, has become the patron of Welsh cats rescue by joining up with Moggies Cat Rescue in Aberdare.
Diane Has Welsh Roots
Diane has Welsh roots, too, through her mother’s side (her Mum is named Eirwen – doesn’t get much more Welsh than that).
And for those who might be thinking “wait, this isn’t Welsh history related”… I say, well, I like cats. As for when domestic cats came to Wales and Britain, it is not certain. However, many do believe that the Romans were the ones responsible for bringing them over (with others citing they came over in trade before this in the Iron Age) to help out with pest control. Well, if true, the next time someone asks you “what did the Romans do for us?” you may respond “they maybe gave us cats.”
