It was on this day (7 August) in 1485 when Henry Tudor landed at Mill Bay (Pembrokeshire) on his road to the Battle of Bosworth. He then marched through Wales, mustering support for his attempt to seize the throne of England from Richard III.

This is a map which shows Henry Tudor’s march from Pembroke through Cymru enroute to the Battle of Bosworth, which took place on 22 August 1485. Of course, Henry would win the battle against Richard III and establish the Tudor dynasty as the royal dynasty, whilst subsequently ending the Plantagenet dynasty’s grip on the throne.
Despite the throne being won by Henry, a Welshman by birth, the Tudor era would prove to be one of the most threatening to the survival of Cymru and Cymraeg (the Welsh language). The worst of it came during the reign of Henry Tudor’s son, Henry VIII, who annexed Cymru into England with the Laws in Wales Act of 1535–1542.
