Did you know that Llanfair PG is not only the longest place name in Cymru and second longest in the world, thanks to the New Zealand hill named Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu, but also holds the record for longest valid domain name?
What Was the Domain Name?
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogochuchaf.org.uk officially holds the coveted record. There are technically others which are longer, such as one involving Pi π (invented by Welsh mathematician, William Jones), but the Welsh village’s domain holds the record for being the longest valid name. Here’s hoping a certain New Zealand hill doesn’t get any ideas.
The postcard in the attached image famously spells Llanfair PG wrong. Try to find the mistake.
