Did you know that, between 1979 and 1993, there existed the Welsh paramilitary group, Meibion Glyndŵr (Sons of Glyndŵr)?
What Was Meibion Glyndŵr?
The group, while having many causes (such as anti-imperialism, pro-republicanism and pro-independence), was most synonymous with 328 fire bomb attacks on English-owned holiday homes with Cymru.
Meibion Glyndŵr and its members perceived that English mass ownership of second homes in Cymru would both result in a rise in Welsh housing prices and pose a threat to Welsh-speaking communities and the survival of the Welsh language.
The group is believed to have arisen following the 1979 Welsh devolution referendum, which resulted in a no vote for Welsh devolution.
The second homes of a number of high profile targets, such as Conservative MP and then-Welsh Secretary, David Hunt, were hit with letter bombs throughout the 1980s especially.
Only one person connected to the group was ever arrested.
