This one is in the festive spirit. A snowman in Wales in the 19th century made history and is still, very much, a pioneer of the annual snowman photograph.
Did you know that the (arguable) earliest photograph of a snowman ever taken was captured in 1853/54… and it was in de Cymru (south Wales)!
The photo was taken by Mary Dillwyn, believed to be the first female photographer in Cymru. It is widely believed, even today, that this is the oldest photograph of a snowman. Perhaps there’s older out there hidden away somewhere but, for now, this one remains the oldest. Go Wales!
