Did you know that the founder of Irish political party, Sinn Féin, was of strong Welsh heritage?
Arthur Griffith, whose great-grandfather, Griffith Griffith, emigrated from what was then Caernarvonshire (now Gwynedd) to Ireland founded Sinn Féin in 1905 and would become leader at the Irish delegation at the negotiations in London which produced the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921.
He would become President of Dail Eireann (Irish Parliament) on 10 January in 1922, serving until his death later that year – just ten days before Michael Collins was ambushed in County Cork.
