This 19th century John Thomas photograph depicts Rheilffordd Corris (Corris Railway) in 1885, when steam engine trains ruled the tracks.
Rheilffordd Corris originally opened all the way back in 1859, back when it was used as (what was known as) a horse tramway. It ran between quays on Afon Dyfi at Morben and the town of Machynlleth.
Nowadays, Rheilffordd Corris runs between Gwynedd and Powys as a narrow gauge railway. It originally closed to passengers in 1931 and was a museum by the 1970s. It reopened to passengers in 2002 and had its steam power restored in 2005.
