Ever wondered if 19th century Londoners had access to a weekly Welsh language magazine? Well, if you have ever had such thoughts, then you will be pleased to know that “Y Cymro Llundeinig” existed!
Many Welsh people lived in London in the 19th century. Whether for work related means or for the thrill of city life (though for most, it would have been less of a thrill), thousands of Welsh people walked the streets of London in the 19th century. Therefore, Y Cymro Llundeinig, a Welsh language magazine written for London’s Welsh population, was a perfect magazine for anyone battling hiraeth and wishing to keep up-to-date with their Welshness.
