I was sent in these images by a friend of Welsh Histories recently. I was unaware, but one of the Cofiwch Dryweryn murals was recently defaced by some saboteurs with less than savoury political intentions. Thankfully, it was restored by Mudiad Eryr Wen – diolch for that!

For those unaware, the origin of the Cofiwch Dryweryn murals are credited to Meic Stephens (23 July 1938 – 2 July 2018), a Welsh poet, journalist and activist from Trefforest, Morgannwg. The slogan of Cofiwch Dryweryn, meaning “Remember Tryweryn”, refers to the flooding of the Welsh-speaking (one of the last Welsh-only villages) village and community of Capel Celyn, which was flooded to create the Llyn Celyn reservoir to provide Liverpool with water in 1965.
These murals are a significant part of our 20th century history and absolutely should not be erased.
