Eglwys Llanbadrig is a Welsh church in Llanbadrig, Ynys Môn, that claims to be among the oldest in all of Cymru.

The Church is known in English as St. Padrig’s Church because of its association with the Irish patron saint, Saint Patrick, who is often claimed to be from what is today Cymru.
The story goes that Pope Celestine I (359 – 27 July 432) had sent Saint Patrick on a mission to convert Ireland to Christianity and that, on his return from the island of Ireland, a storm had led to him becoming shipwrecked on Ynys Badrig, a mile off the northern coast of Ynys Môn.
After securing shelter in a nearby cave, he would make his way to Ynys Môn, building a church above the nearby cliffs as a “diolch yn fawr/thank you” to God for ensuring his survival throughout the ordeal. This church is said to have been built, in wood, upon the same location as the church in the image – with the church being rebuilt in stone in the 12th century.
Whether true or not, it’s a lovely church and surrounding location. Give it a visit!
