It was on 21 May 1982 when Swansea City successfully completed their first ever season in the First Division (back when it was called that) with a sixth place finish under the leadership of Welsh manager, John Toshack.
The club also still holds the record for its year on year rise from Division Four to the top division… one which is under threat from fellow Welsh team, Wrexham, who just secured their third successive promotion into the Championship.
When Toshack joined Swansea on 1 March 1978, they were a struggling fourth division side. By the 1981-82 season, he had taken them all the way into the First Division following three third-place promotions. The Swans also won three Welsh Cups (1980-81, 1981-82, 1982-83) under his masterful stewardship.

Mr Toshack was a neighbour of mine . In fact the house he lived in was built over my den!
